Security & Keeping Your Account Safe
Pays Wallet is built with security at its core. Here's how your account and funds are protected, and what you can do to stay safe.
How Your Wallet Is Secured
Smart Wallet Architecture
Your Pays Wallet uses a smart contract wallet (powered by account abstraction). Unlike traditional crypto wallets, you don't need to manage a seed phrase or private key. Your wallet is secured through your authentication credentials and advanced on-chain security.
Self-Custodial
Your crypto is yours. Pays Wallet is self-custodial, meaning you have full control of your assets. We can't access, move, or freeze your crypto — only you can.
Secure Authentication
Your account is protected by industry-standard OAuth authentication through Privy. Combined with your device's biometric security (Face ID, fingerprint), your account has multiple layers of protection.
Encrypted Storage
Sensitive data like session tokens are stored in your device's secure enclave (Expo Secure Store), which is encrypted and isolated from other apps.
Best Practices to Stay Safe
Protect Your Device
- Use a strong passcode or biometric lock on your phone.
- Keep your phone's operating system up to date.
- Don't jailbreak or root your device — this can compromise security features.
Be Careful with Addresses
- Always double-check wallet addresses before sending crypto. Transactions are irreversible.
- Use QR codes or saved contacts whenever possible to avoid typos.
- Be wary of addresses shared via messaging apps or social media — scammers may try to substitute their own address.
Watch Out for Scams
- Pays Wallet will never ask for your password, seed phrase, or private key. If someone claiming to be from Pays asks for these, it's a scam.
- Don't click suspicious links in emails or messages claiming to be from Pays.
- Our support team communicates only through the in-app Intercom chat. We'll never DM you on social media asking for personal information.
Card Security
- If you notice any unauthorized transactions on your virtual card, freeze it immediately from the Cards screen.
- Don't share your card number, expiry, or CVV with anyone.
- Only use your card on trusted websites and merchants.
Freezing a Card
If you suspect unauthorized use of a virtual card:
- Go to the Cards screen immediately (tap the card icon in the wallet header).
- Select the affected card.
- Tap Freeze to instantly block all transactions.
- Contact our support team through the in-app chat for further help.
Reporting Issues
If you believe your account has been compromised or you notice suspicious activity:
- Change your login credentials with your email or social provider immediately.
- Freeze any active virtual cards.
- Contact our support team right away through the in-app chat.
We take security seriously and will help you secure your account as quickly as possible.
